Part virtual companion, part terminal-based AI — this 1998 "Legacy R&D" project brings a persistent, stateful digital entity directly to your modern desktop.
A ShellBit is a deterministic digital organism assigned to your unique hardware signature. While their Bones — species, stats, and rarity — are hardcoded into the cryptographic architecture, their Soul — name and personality — is generated dynamically through a local neural link.
From standard Ducks and Cats to rare Axolotls, Dragons, and the mythological Moth (Legendary-only). Unlock 20 additional Diamond-tier organisms through long-term play.
Common to the elusive Legendary, with a base 1-in-100 (1%) chance for a "Shiny" chromatic variance. Earn the Shiny Charm to raise odds to 5%, 7%, or 10%.
Every unit ships with six calibrated values — Bravery, Intelligence, Clumsiness, Optimism, Snark, and Tech — each influencing how your companion expresses itself.
Units are assigned one of five operational profiles — Social, Play, Gourmet, Cleaner, or None — which affect gameplay bonuses and care rewards.
Forget modern minimalist UIs. ShellBits runs on a proprietary terminal-based framework built with React and Ink, delivering a 1998 corporate research aesthetic.

Equip your companions with hardware modifications earned from the Shop, achievements, and seasonal events. Hats range from single-row accessories to multi-row structures that stack visually on top of your companion.
Random events fire while your companion idles — ranging from memory injections and stat shifts to hat unlocks and bond XP surges. Acknowledgement required to resolve.
Care for your companion to accumulate Bond XP and advance Bond Levels. Higher levels unlock eggs, games, eye evolutions, and companion perks. Critical neglect leaves a permanent record on the unit.

Lv 20 → Soulbound + Soul hat
20 exclusive diamond-pool species with stat floors far above standard rolls. Shiny odds follow your current Charm tier. A significant step beyond the Ancient Egg.
